Alnwick: Castle, Gardens or Market Day
Saturday 6th June - Route DAlnwick, a traditional country market town in Northumberland, is rich in history, dating back to 600AD and was once the staging post on the great North Road between London and Edinburgh. Alnwick is the home of the medieval Alnwick Castle, built after the Norman Conquest and was home of the most powerful medieval northern baronial family, the Earls of Northumberland, and is currently inhabited by the Duke of Northumberland’s family, the Percy’s. This iconic castle was used as a film location for the first two Harry Potter films. The Castle Gardens is now one of the world’s most contemporary gardens including poisonous plants and treetop walkways to glorious roses and towering delphiniums. The Duchesses’ vision for a forgotten plot is now a 21st century experience full of imagination and fun, all brought to life with water.
