Entertain the Kids on a Budget this October Half Term
Can we believe that the six weeks summer holidays are long gone, ‘Back to School’ day is long gone and they’re already back at home?!
No, we can’t! However, we hope to help you keep them entertained for this week-long break with our great tips for North East days out this October!

Half term for students in Newcastle, Gateshead, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Sunderland, Northumberland and County Durham, takes place on Friday 21st October – Monday 31st October. Please remember to check with your school for your child’s specific holiday dates.
Theme Parks
If the weather holds out, there are a number of fantastic, local theme parks in our area, including:
- Ocean Beach Pleasure Park, South Shields,
- Flamingo Land, Malton
- Lightwater Valley, Ripon
Why not go further afield and visit Scarborough and visit their fair or try Blackpool’s Pleasure Beach?
Heritage & History
Visit one of the dozens of historical, heritage locations in our region, from stunning castles, to fascinating museums, there’s a whole host to choose from!

Juice Festival
Taking place during the October half term holiday, the Juice Festival returns, October 21-29, with pop-up museum performances, Roald Dahl-themed book events and a Latin American ‘Day of the Dead’ family celebration.
The Juice Festival is specifically structured for families and under 25s to enjoy and takes in cultural venues, libraries and public spaces. Find out more on their official website.
Prevent boredom
