Glasgow & Edinburgh: Tale of Two Cities

23rd May 2016

So, the Charles Dickens version might have focused on London and Paris, but Glasgow and Edinburgh are two cities equally worthy of a visit we’re offering you both!

Scottish cities, Glasgow and Edinburgh, are both on the agenda for this summer with Stanley Travel and we want to give you an equal amount of insight into these two incredible cities, so here we go…

Glasgow

The host of the 2014 Commonwealth Games and long-standing location of Old Firm and its historic football rivalry between Celtic and Rangers, Glasgow isn’t just a city for the history books.

This vibrant and eclectic city is filled with enough culture, sport and history to shake a stick at, which is why we’re offering a fantastic day trip!

Glasgow is home to most of Scotland’s national arts organisations, not least the Scottish Opera, Scottish Ballet, Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the National Theatre of Scotland – phew!

If the arts aren’t your thing, then Glasgow is also well-acquainted with the music scene with The Hydro, the SECC and Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.

Popular Glaswegians from the world of showbiz include, Billy Connolly, Robert Carlyle, James McAvoy and Robbie Coltrane.

  • Our Glasgow day trip takes place on Saturday 18th June, with tickets priced at £16.50 per adult, £15.50 for under 16s and £60.00 for a family ticket. Book your Glasgow trip now.

Edinburgh

As the capital city of Scotland, Edinburgh is home to the Scottish Parliament, National Museum of Scotland and the Scottish National Gallery.

This cosmopolitan city is bordered with miles of countryside and the stunning coastline of the Lothians, offering visitors natural beauty, adventure and  the excitement of the city all in one! It is also the second largest financial centre in the UK, after London.

Visit the Royal Mile, which stretches from Edinburgh Castle right through the Old Town, up to the iconic Arthur’s Seat. If history is your thing, you could visit The White Hart Inn, in Grassmarket, which played host to Robert Burns.

Celebrities hailing from Edinburgh include Sean Connery, Ronnie Corbett, Alastair Sim and Chris Hoy.
